Inspiration: "I feel blessed to be a therapist" Terri OReilly
“After nearly two decades of helping individuals and couples work through their emotional and psychological struggles, I feel blessed to be a therapist.” Terri OReilly
I’ve watched couples share the common dilemma of their steadfast need to be right and inability to let the unimportant go; battle lines drawn in the sand and exhaustion from years of holding the war front. I’ve shared the experiences of individual’s psychological inflexibility, painful belief systems, past trauma’s and distorted cognitions. These are the discomforts that make up the vastness of being human.
But I’ve also been lucky enough to witness the joy when people have traversed the most treacherous of emotional journeys. I’ve learnt from my clients over the years that we are so much more. We are full of a limitless capacity for transformation, sometimes boundless compassion and gifted with a cortex that enables us to shift even the most deeply entrenched behaviours.
The beginning of Therapy Lounge
The forefront of my thinking is that if issues can be reconciled earlier, people will have to endure less emotional pain. I recognised a need to provide support for people in real time, on the spot, when and where they need it; your very own personal therapist – ergo, the inception of Therapy Lounge.
I’m looking forward to continuing to be available for my clients and in helping them find solutions to their own problems so they can restore optimum functioning and wellbeing. As long as my brain remains intact I’ll continue to maintain my commitment to life-long learning and offering my clients inspiring solutions to their problems.
Terri O'Reilly's Background and Training
I believe in the power of the unconscious mind so in 2000 I completed a Diploma of Hypnotherapy and have been using hypnosis to help people overcome a range of issues ever since. I’ve also completed a Bachelor of Counselling and Post Graduate Diploma in Human Sexuality.
Throughout my professional career, I’ve worked as a therapist in the fields of domestic violence, children and family, and have worked extensively in private practice helping clients overcome faulty thinking patterns, internal turmoil and relationship conflict.
Additional training includes: the Gottman method of relationship counselling, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Working with Complex Trauma, the Nurtured Heart Approach, Circle of Security and Therapists Supervision Training. I currently still work in private practice and supervise a team of counsellors engaged in the Child and Family Services.
Terri O'Reilly has a Bachelor Degree in Counselling and Diplomas in both Hypnotherapy and Sexology. She has worked for over a decade counselling individuals and couples in her own private practice and has supervised a team of counsellors working with clients who present with a range of psychological and emotional issues.
“I believe that in many instances effective change can be achieved with brief therapy models. By the time many clients reach therapy they feel emotionally spent: exhausted from the time spent under the strain of internal or external turmoils. The forefront of my thinking is that if issues can be reconciled earlier, people are more likely to have to endure less emotional pain. I recognised a need to provide support for people in real time, on the spot, when and where they need it – ergo, the inception of Therapy Lounge.”
We look forward to continuing to offer our clients quality therapeutic support when and where they want to access it. I think that when people are in emotional turmoil they should be able to access therapeutic services when and where they need it.
